Gifted Testing

Does your child think differently? Do they seem to have higher order thinking? Do they seem to have a higher cognitive and academic level? Does their problem solving seem advanced? Your child could be Gifted. Intelligence testing is required for Gifted eligibility and provides an Intelligence Quotient (IQ) score and information about cognitive strengths and weaknesses. Gifted assessments are required for enrollment into the Gifted program that offers gifted/advanced curriculum to provide more opportunity for your child to reach their full potential. Public and private schools require comprehensive IQ testing for children 4 years and older. I administer this nationally standardized assessment one-on-one with your child. The testing takes ~40 to 60 minutes. Prior to testing, I build rapport with your child to ensure they are fully comfortable, and I will work to extract every bit of intelligence possible. I will then have the results and psycho-educational report to you within 1 to 2 days. To qualify for Gifted your child needs a 130 standard score or above on the IQ test. Private schools have more flexible eligibility requirements.

Here are the two requirements for gifted testing in Palm Beach County.

1.     Have your child take an IQ test and score 130 or above (administered by a psychologist).

2.     Have your child’s teacher complete a gifted characteristics checklist (the form is given to you by your child’s school once you bring the IQ report to them)

If your child meets both requirements, then a special plan called an Educational Plan (EP) is created with your involvement as a team member.

Characteristics of giftedness include, but not limited to:

  • Advanced development

  • Advanced academics

  • Advanced language skills

  • Advanced learning abilities

  • High maturity level

  • Advanced communication skills

  • Superior understanding of their surroundings

  • Creative thinking

  • Superior or selected concentration

  • Advanced emotional intelligence, such as, understanding and compassion

  • Advanced attention to detail or observation

“There are many psychologists in the community that offer gifted testing, but Ms. Mallia is the best! She took the time to make sure Connor was comfortable before she began the testing. When we were leaving, Connor asked if he could do it again and when he could come back to the do more brain teasers in the ‘surf shack’ with Ms. Mallia!”

“I had a feeling my daughter was gifted, however, she is slow to warm up to new people and I did not think she would perform with all of her ability in a testing situation with a stranger. I was wrong! My daughter came out of the testing session with Ms. Mallia, saying that she had so much fun doing yoga poses and jumping jacks during her testing breaks. My daughter scored a 132 and is now excelling on the Gifted program at her school!

“I just wanted to follow up and let you know that due to your evaluation Emi is “officially” in the Gifted program. Thank you so much for your help! The school complimented the package you put together with Emi’s results and your impressions of her.”
